3 Cool Modern DIY Projects For Your Patio

Thanks to Covid, there’s a lot less traveling going on which means many people are taking measures to improve their home and garden.  Some are turning their abode into a wonderful staycation oasis!  Feeling like making some upgrades of your own?  Check out these ideas to modernize the deck, patio, or porch!

Bring the cooler to the party

This is ingenious!  Pop a planter into the table, plug the holes with left over cork from your wine bottles, fill with ice and your favorite beverages, and voila!  You won’t have to head to far to grab a cold one!  For this we used a long, narrow window ledge planter, which happened to be about the width of two 2×4 boards.  The 2×2 pieces allowed for a hidden platform for the planter to set on.  Once the party’s over, just pop out the cork stoppers and let the melted ice drain out.  Find more detailed plans for this in our online shop here:  https://designedoutdoors.com/product-category/accent-tables/

Curb Appeal at the mailbox

We recently had one crazy winter, full of ice and rain and snow.  All that freeze and thaw and wetness rotted our wooden mailbox post and it snapped in half one day.  Time for a makeover!  We used 2×4 treated lumber to build a new frame adn then clad the framework with 1×4 cedar boards.  This project only took a day and was done with a miter saw, drill, and nail gun.  We are the envy of the neighborhood with this upgrade! Repurpose a pallet - Create a Plant Ledge

If you love pallet projects, check this one out! Use the pallet boards to create a plant ledge for your porch or Florida room.  This is ideal for getting seedlings started or new plants acclimated before planting.  This was completed in a day with a miter saw, drill, and nail gun.  Cost: zero. Woohoo!  Find a more detailed tutorial on how to do this here:  https://designedoutdoors.com/pallet-project-diy/
